Alan Crawford was sent by the South African in 1947 to establish a weathers station on Marion Island. The prince Edward Islands that include Marion Island and Prince Edward Island was annexed by South Africa in 1947/1948. Alan Crawford played a huge role during the annexation and the establishing of the weather station. He also did a survey with the help of to Islanders from Tristan de Cunha. The Scott Polar Institute has a huge collection of articles that have been published in the British as well as international press.
