Abstract:
Alan Crawford was sent by the South African in 1947 to establish a weathers station on Marion Island. The prince Edward Islands that include Marion Island and Prince Edward Island was annexed by South Africa in 1947/1948. Alan Crawford played a huge role during the annexation and the establishing of the weather station. He also did a survey with the help of to Islanders from Tristan de Cunha. The Scott Polar Institute has a huge collection of articles that have been published in the British as well as international press. When Ria visited the archive at SPRI these articles were not available digital and an appointment with the archive need to be made before a visit for research purposes
